This is the amusing moment birds were spotted 'challenging' a drone in a dramatic mid-air standoff in China.

Footage shows two playful avians hovering in the sky and attacking the unmanned aerial device in Shandong.

The feathered creatures can be seen circling the gadget, seemingly attempting to confront it on June 16.

The drone pilot decided to carefully maneuver in the air to avoid them and pulled back, shifting side to side as the birds closed in.

Experts said birds often perceive drones as potential threats or intruders in their territory, especially during nesting season.

Wildlife researchers explained that many species are highly territorial and may attack unfamiliar objects in the air to protect their nests, mates, or feeding grounds.
