This is the amusing moment hundreds of birds filled every branch of the winter trees in China.

Footage shows the avians perched on withered trees, creating a stunning illusion of dark, rustling leaves in Xuzhou, Jiangsu Province.

Some of the feathered creatures can be seen fluttering and hovering over the branches before landing on the twigs on December 15.

Their synchronised movement and dense numbers give the barren trees a full, lively appearance despite the winter chill.

Experts said that this behaviour is a form of communal roosting. Birds perch close together to share body heat and survive freezing temperatures.

China's winters, lasting from late November to March, are notoriously harsh, characterised by strong winds, dry air, and sporadic frost and snowfall.
