SOUNDS OF CLASHES BEING HEARDSUWAYDA, SYRIA - JULY 16: Clashes between Syrian security forces and armed local groups in Suwayda, a province in southern Syria with a large Druze population, continued for a fourth consecutive day. After entering the center of Suwayda city during the daylight on yesterday, July 15, Syrian security forces withdrew by the evening but continued their operations and search-and-sweep activities in the city’s northern, northwestern, and northeastern neighborhoods. During these activities, clashes between security forces and Druze groups continued throughout the night. The Unkud Junction in the suburbs of Suwayda and the Tishreen Junction in the city center came under the control of security forces. Security forces also took control of the Qanawat street, which connects the capital Damascus to Suwayda. Meanwhile, a group coming from a Druze-majority town in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights crossed through barbed wire fences under the supervision of Israeli soldiers. The group provided support during the night to local armed groups in Suwayda. Speaking to the official Syrian news agency SANA, officials from the Ministry of Defense said that although a ceasefire agreement had been reached with community leaders in Suwayda yesterday, clashes resumed after local armed groups attacked security forces. Additionally, overnight, two Israeli warplanes carried out seven airstrikes targeting both a military airbase in east of Suwayda and the city center.
