VARIOUS OF ARMORED VEHICLES ADVANCINGTAICHUNG, TAIWAN - JULY 16: Taiwanese forces conducted a military exercise on the outskirts of Taichung on Wednesday, July 16, as part of the annual Han Kuang drills, which simulate the island's defense against a potential Chinese invasion. The exercise involved CM-11 tanks, CM-32 and CM-34 armored vehicles, tactical short-range unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and ground troops. The simulation focused on halting advancing enemy forces and reducing their combat effectiveness through layered defense operations. The drill came just hours after Taiwan reported that 38 warplanes and UAVs from China’s People’s Liberation Army had crossed into its air defense identification zone (ADIZ). China considers Taiwan a breakaway province, whereas Taipei insists on its independence. In response to the drills, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said that Beijing’s stance “on opposing military ties between the US and Taiwan region is consistent and very firm.” Mao told a live-streamed news conference that “Taiwan’s efforts to seek independence through force will not get through.” Earlier, China also said the Taiwanese drill is nothing but a “self-deceiving trick" played by the island.
