On the morning of July 15, at China’s Wenchang Space Launch Site, the Long March-7 Yao-10 carrier rocket successfully launched the Tianzhou-9 cargo spacecraft.

The spacecraft's takeoff created a stunning visual spectacle in the night sky known as the “space jellyfish.”

As the rocket ascended, its exhaust plume formed a distinctive umbrella-shaped cloud high in the atmosphere - a large, glowing head with a trailing smoky tail - resembling a giant jellyfish swimming slowly across the sky.

This phenomenon, often referred to as a “rocket cloud,” results from a “twilight effect” — the rocket exhaust interacting with light in the upper atmosphere under specific conditions, producing mesmerising patterns.

About three hours after launch, Tianzhou-9 successfully docked with the rear port of the Tianhe core module of China’s space station.
