India: All major ghats in Varanasi submerged as River Ganga swells across Uttar Pradesh
The continuously rising level of the Varanasi , Uttarpradesh Ganga almost touched the warning level of 70.26 meters on Tuesday, increasing threat of flooding in low-lying areas of the city, especially on the families shifted to flood safe sites.
According to the footage The swollen river compelled shifting of cremations at ghats, including Manikarnika and Harischandra. Police has brekated for these area. as well as the Ganga Aartis of different ghats to upper platforms. It also submerged the river police outpost at Dashaswamedh Ghat.
According to Central Water Commission's daily bulletin, the level of Ganga reached 69.96 meters by Saturday afternoon against the warning level of 70.26 meters, while the danger mark is at 71.26 meters. The record of the maximum water level in Varanasi was 73.90 meters in 1978.
