On 9 July Tuesday morning Katraj, Pune A mother had briefly stepped out to drop her elder daughter at school, leaving her 4-year-old daughter alone at home. The curious child crawled under an open window, slipped, and was left hanging onto the edge.

Off-duty firefighter Yogesh Chavan noticed her, rushed to the floor, and found the door locked. He was about to break it when he saw the mother returning. She quickly opened the door, and he managed to rescue the girl just in time.

Parents, even a moment's absence can turn dangerous when young children are left alone. Never underestimate a child’s curiosity. Either don’t leave them alone, or if you have no other option, anticipate everything that could go wrong and secure the surroundings accordingly.
