Hundreds celebrate wild snake festival in India

Hundreds of people danced and paraded with snakes wrapped around their necks in Bihar, India on Tuesday July 15.

The thrilling display of fearlessness was part of the celebrations for the Hindu festival of snakes, known as Nag Panchami.

Followers gathered snakes from all over the area and carried them in a mass procession toward the nearby river and released them in the water before taking them to the Serpent-God temple to be worshipped with milk, sweets, and flowers.

In a bid to cast away evil karma, believers parade the streets by holding the snakes up in the air.
