Demonstrators gathered in the city center to oppose draft law No. 12414, which was approved earlier in the day by the Verkhovna Rada and signed into law by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The legislation places the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) under the authority of the prosecutor general, removing safeguards designed to ensure their independence. Protesters chanted slogans such as “Hands off NABU” and “Shame,” urging the president to veto the law. Organizers warned of more demonstrations if the decision is not reversed. NABU Director Semen Kryvonos earlier said the law would dismantle Ukraine’s anti-corruption infrastructure. European Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Mart Kos, also criticized the legislation, calling it a serious setback and warning that the independence of NABU and SAPO is vital for Ukraine’s European Union accession process.
