Berwyn, United States - July 25, 2025 A powerful explosion destroyed a BP gas station at Ogden and Oak Park avenues on July 25, sending flames into the sky and causing widespread damage. X user you_dont_know_me captured the terrifying moment, saying, “The gas station by me exploded right in front of me. A downed power line cut into the concrete and ruptured a gas line. Power was out for awhile.” Berwyn police reported that emergency crews were already on site around 3:42 p.m., responding to storm damage when downed power lines ignited two gas lines at the station. The gas lines exploded at 3:49 p.m., causing the station to collapse. The force shattered windows of nearby buildings, including Novi’s Beef restaurant across the street. Manager Tom Zednik described the blast: “The roof shot about two-three hundred feet in the air and then it just came down. It just shook us and thank God we have double pane glass, because our windows shattered instantly.” Witnesses reported a small fire before the explosion and evacuations of nearby homes and businesses. Michelle Donnamario recalled, “It started off as a small little fire behind the gas station. Everyone got out, that I saw... then the huge boom. And my neighbors said it looked like a nuke went off.” Chopper 7 footage showed multiple blocks around the gas station closed to traffic. Despite the destruction, no injuries were reported. Emergency crews remained at the scene for hours working to extinguish the fire. Authorities continue investigating the incident.
