DAMAGED BUILDING KHARTOUM, SUDAN - JULY 28, 2025: Extensive damage to government buildings, streets, and key infrastructure in central Khartoum, Sudan’s capital, was videoed by Anadolu on Monday, July 28, following 23 months of intense fighting between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The conflict, which began in April 2023 and later spread across the country, severely impacted downtown Khartoum, where major ministries and public and private sector headquarters are located.
Many structures show signs of gunfire, fire damage, and abandonment. Streets remain mostly empty.
Authorities in Khartoum have launched cleanup and restoration operations, clearing debris and burned vehicles from major roads, including Republic Street.
As part of recovery efforts, the High National Committee was established to coordinate returns and basic service restoration.
Chairman of the Sovereign Council Abdel Fattah al-Burhan recently landed at the reopened Khartoum airport and visited key sites in the city.
The army and RSF have been fighting a war since April 2023 that has killed more than 20,000 victims and displaced 14 million, according to the UN and local authorities.
Research from US universities, however, estimates the death toll at around 130,000.
