China: Firefighters deployed to rescue flood-trapped residents from nursing home in Beijing
Firefighters were deployed to rescue and evacuate more than 40 people trapped in a nursing home and nearby areas inundated by rainstorm-triggered flash floods in northeastern Beijing's suburban district of Miyun on Monday. Since Saturday, heavy rainfall has caused mountain floods and mudslides in Miyun. Upon receiving an alarm, the local firefighting authorities promptly acted by dispatching firefighters to the affected nursing home in the Taishitun Township of the district. After reaching the scene, the fighters spotted eight trapped people on the roof of a restaurant opposite the nursing home, including one elderly and one child. Using heavy machinery, two firefighters ascended the roof and relay-transferred the elderly and child to vehicles first. All the remaining trapped individuals were then evacuated to safe areas. The firefighters proceeded to reach the flooded nursing home by an assault boat. After jumping into the floodwater, they swam inside, helped the elderly put on life jackets, and carried them out to the boat. All the 48 people were rescued throughout the morning, with rescue operations still ongoing. SHOTLIST: Miyun District, northeastern Beijing, China - July 28, 2025 1. Floodwater on street; 2.
