Footage shows police responding to a shooting in New York that left six people dead, including the gunman.

A suspect armed with a rifle reportedly entered a 44-storey building in Manhattan and opened fire, killing a police officer and four civilians on Monday evening, July 28.

Local media have identified the man as Shane Tamura, who was said to be wearing a blazer and dark sunglasses during the incident.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams confirmed the attack and urged the public to exercise caution. He said: 'Please take proper safety precautions if you are in vicinity and do not go outside if you are near Park Avenue and East 51st Street.'

The building, located in Midtown Manhattan, houses several major businesses, including Blackstone, KPMG, and the NFL. It is considered a key commercial hub in the area.

After opening fire, Tamura barricaded himself inside the tower. He was later found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on the 33rd floor, where several of the victims were also located.

New York City Police Department (NYPD) Commissioner Jessica Tisch said: 'The scene has been contained and the lone shooter has been neutralized.'

The motive behind the shooting remains unclear, and investigators are continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding the attack.
