Los Angeles, United States - July 29, 2025 07/28/2025 07:00 pm GMT-0700 Granada Hills The man suspected of gunning down a New York Police Department officer and wounding four others in a violent shooting spree has been identified as Shane Tamura a former student of Golden Valley High School in Santa Clarita and Granada Hills Charter High School in Los Angeles, California, according to the New York Post. Tamura, a resident of Las Vegas, Nevada, reportedly drove cross-country armed with an assault rifle before opening fire in Midtown Manhattan, according to NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch. The shooting claimed the life of an NYPD officer and left four others wounded. Tamura fatally shot himself following the attack, police said. Investigators are working to determine what led Tamura to carry out the deadly assault. During today's press conference, Tisch said Tamura had a documented history of mental illness. I cannot speak for any prior law enforcement contact he may have had, Tisch stated. I can say that our partners in Las Vegas made us aware of a mental health history just two weeks ago.
