VARIOUS OF WAVES HITTING ROCKS ALONG COASTLINECALIFORNIA, US - JULY 30: The US Tsunami Warning Center maintained a tsunami warning and advisories Wednesday across the Pacific coast following an 8.8 magnitude earthquake off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula, with California recording waves up to 4 feet (1.2 meters). The center's latest update at 7.19 am local time (1419GMT) kept tsunami warnings in effect for California's coast from the Humboldt/Del Norte line to the Oregon border. Advisories remained active from Santa Barbara to Washington state, including San Francisco Bay, and Alaska's Aleutian Islands. Tsunami advisories covered California's coast from Rincon Point, 15 miles (24 kilometers) southeast of Santa Barbara, to the Humboldt/Del Norte line. Oregon advisories extended from the California border to the Washington border, including the Columbia River estuary coast. Washington's outer coast from the Oregon border to Slip Point remained under advisory, along with the Columbia River estuary coast and Juan de Fuca Strait coast. Alaska's Aleutian Islands from Samalga Pass, 30 miles southwest of Nikolski, to Attu faced continued advisories, including the Pribilof Islands. - Crescent City sees highest waves Crescent City, California recorded the maximum tsunami height at 4.0 feet, followed by Arena Cove at 3.0 feet and Point Reyes at 2.6 feet. Port San Luis measured 2.7 feet while San Francisco registered 1.2 feet and Santa Barbara reached 1.3 feet. Along the Pacific Northwest, Port Orford, Oregon recorded 1.4 feet, with La Push, Washington measuring 1.3 feet. Alaska's Adak registered 2.7 feet and Amchitka recorded 1.8 feet. The earthquake struck at a depth of 20.7 kilometers, centered 119 kilometers east-southeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky. The Russian Academy of Sciences called it the strongest regional quake since 1952. - Hawaii lifts evacuation orders Hawaii County canceled evacuation orders for coastal zones, allowing residents to return home, its civil defense agency announced on X. But a tsunami watch continues for the Hawaii islands. The warning center said for other US and Canadian Pacific coasts in North America, there is no tsunami threat beyond the specified areas under a warning or advisory.
