PROTESTORS CARRYIN FLAGS, CHANTING SLOGANS (TWO SHOTS)VIENNA, AUSTRIA - AUGUST 5, 2025: Hundreds of pro-Palestinian demonstrators gathered in front of Austria’s Parliament building in Vienna to protest the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The demonstration was organized by Amnesty International Austria and several other civil society organizations. Protesters called for an immediate end to the use of starvation as a method of warfare. Shoura Hashemi, a senior official at Amnesty International Austria, emphasized the need to act, saying they must do their best to prevent hunger from being used as a weapon of war. The Israeli army, rejecting international calls for a ceasefire, has pursued a brutal offensive on Gaza since Oct. 7, 2023, killing more than 61,000 Palestinians, almost half of them women and children. Israel’s military campaign has devastated the enclave and brought it to the verge of famine. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
