China: Chinese firm unveils world's first humanoid robot that can change its own batteries
[Voiceover] Chinese company UBTech have just unveiled a humanoid robot that can change its own batteries. In a demonstration, a humanoid robot backs up to a battery charging pile. Reaching its arms over its head in a position that would be impossible for a human, the robot removes a battery from its back and slides it into the pile. It then grabs a replacement battery from the pile and slides it into itself. Developers say a previous drawback with humanoid robots was their limited operational time of about four hours. But with the battery-swapping technology, the robots can continue to work, which is a game changer in manufacturing. [Soundbite] Fan Congming, executive president, Shenzhen Artificial Intelligence Industry Association: "This technology makes it possible for robots to work continuously, which means that humanoid robots can be standard equipment on production lines and in factories." [Voiceover] According to a report on the humanoid robot industry released at the 2024 World AI Conference in Shanghai, the market scale of China's humanoid robot sector is expected to top 10 billion U.S. dollars in 2029, that's up from roughly 39 million last year.
