Ferries collide while docking at port in the Philippines
Two ferries collided while docking at a port in the Philippines.
Footage captured by Sandy Aynaga aboard the MV Santa Alberta shows the MV FastCat M19 making contact with their vessel at Batangas City port on July 28.
The incident occurred as the ferry was attempting to dock, but strong currents and gusty winds from the southwest monsoon caused it to veer off course.
After the collision, the watercraft manoeuvred away from the area, with crew members seen assisting in guiding it to safety.
Sandy said: 'FastCat M19 attempted to dock but suddenly struck our ship due to the strong currents and winds brought by the southwest monsoon.'
No injuries or significant damage were reported.
Port officials and maritime safety authorities have urged vessels to exercise extreme caution when docking during the southwest monsoon. They stressed the importance of ensuring crews are adequately prepared to navigate the challenging conditions of strong currents and powerful winds that often accompany this season.
