A ferry docked at a port in the Philippines capsized amid bad weather earlier today.

Footage shows the fast craft, identified as Weesam Express 8 of SRN Fast Seacrafts, overturned in the waters off Zamboanga on Tuesday, October 7.

Boat captain Samuel Sabanal said the vessel began sinking at around 5:20 am local time, less than two hours before its scheduled departure.

He said: 'At around 3 am, the crew discovered that seawater had flooded the engine room. They attempted to pump it out, but the inflow, coming through a hole in the engine compartment, was too much to manage.'

Sabanal noted there was a delay in reporting the issue to him. He added: 'If they had reported the problem yesterday, we would have cancelled the voyage immediately and addressed repairs.'

As the fast craft began to list dangerously, the captain ordered all crew members to evacuate. No injuries were reported.

An oil spill boom has been deployed around the site as a precaution against potential leakage.
