Baby learns how to speak like characters from Animal Crossing
A mum was baffled when her one-year-old's babbling turned out to be from Animal Crossing - a game she plays all the time
Mary Sanford, 28, noticed her 13-month-old daughter, Serenity, making oddly recognisable sounds while babbling.
At first, she assumed they were just the usual random baby noises.
It wasn't until one evening when she switched on Nintendo's Animal Crossing that she realised Serenity was mimicking the game's villagers.
Animal Crossing is a social simulation game where characters speak a whimsical, made-up language called Animalese.
Mary, from Melbourne, Australia, said: "The noises started happening again and again and something about them felt strangely familiar. "
"It wasn't until later that I realised she was perfectly mimicking the Animal Crossing villager voices! "
"When it finally clicked, I couldn't stop laughing."
Mary usually plays the video game after Serenity is asleep and wondered how her daughter even picked it up.
But last month, when both Mary and Serenity were ill for a week, Mary spent a lot more time playing the game in the same room.
Mary said: "I guess that was all the training she needed."
"Ever since then, the moment she hears the game start up, she launches into full-on Animalese babble like she's the island's tiny, unofficial ambassador."
Serenity still babbles like a character from the game - even at the dinner table.
Mary said: "She actually did it again tonight, right in the middle of dinner. "
"She drops those little Animal Crossing villager noises like it's her second language now. "
"It's safe to say this is officially her thing."
