According to national media reports, most of the affected provinces are located in the country’s southwest and are experiencing the impact of a heatwave. France’s national weather agency Meteo-France said temperatures in Aude province could reach 42 degrees Celsius, while Rhone province and the city of Lyon could see highs of 41 degrees. Provinces under red alert for extreme heat include Gironde, Dordogne, Lot-et-Garonne, Landes, Lot, Tarn-et-Garonne, Gers, Tarn, Haute-Garonne, Rhone, Isere, Drome, Ardeche and Aude. Aude province, which saw the summer’s largest wildfire with more than 16,000 hectares burned, has also been placed under red alert.
