According to the RMI, Belgium is now under the influence of a heatwave sweeping across Europe. The western and central regions will see temperatures surpassing 35°C, with some areas reaching 36-37°C. Authorities have urged the public to take precautions, particularly elderly people, children, and those with heart conditions, advising them to limit outdoor activities. This is the first orange-level warning since August 2024, while the last red alert was issued in August 2020. Although temperatures will not break records, the RMI confirmed that the heatwave criteria have been met, with five consecutive days above 25°C and at least three days exceeding 30°C. The average July temperature in Belgium is 23°C, making this spike significantly higher than usual. Citizens are advised to stay hydrated, avoid direct sun exposure, and check on vulnerable individuals during the peak heat period.
