In a statement, the RIVM urged caution, particularly for elderly residents and those with chronic illnesses, and called for preventive measures against extreme heat.
As part of the plan, residents are advised to stay indoors, drink plenty of water, and remain in shaded areas whenever possible. Hospitals and healthcare facilities will be placed on alert, and emergency services will be reinforced.
The institute emphasized that people over the age of 75, as well as those with chronic conditions such as heart disease and respiratory illnesses, should take extra precautions.
Following the activation of the Heatwave Plan, many residents flocked to parks, open spaces, and swimming pools to cool off.
