This is the dramatic moment a roof was torn off a structure as Typhoon Podul battered Taiwan.

Footage shows powerful winds ripping roofing material from a structure. The debris is seen falling onto a parked car below as the storm intensified on Wednesday, August 13.

Typhoon Podul swept across southern Taiwan, bringing wind speeds of up to 191 kph (118 mph). The system triggered widespread closures across the island and led to the cancellation of hundreds of flights.

The Central Weather Administration reported that Podul made landfall in the southeastern city of Taitung at around 1 pm local time. The typhoon then moved across Taiwan's southern tip before entering the Taiwan Strait around three hours later.

Authorities said more than 8,000 residents were evacuated as a safety measure. One person remains missing, and at least 112 injuries have been reported.
