This is the heartwarming moment a mother surprised her daughter with a puppy as a gift.

The woman bought the fluffy Bichon Frise pup for her young daughter in Liaoning, China.

Footage shows the mother placing the excited puppy in bed next to the sleeping child on June 17.

The pooch can be seen wagging its tail and sniffing its new owner to wake her up.

Moments later, the youngster opened her eyes and saw the dog. She then sat up, gasping in disbelief, and asked her mother if the puppy was really for her.

The shocked girl slapped her own face and said to her mother: 'I'm not dreaming, am I?'

The overjoyed daughter beamed at her mum, flashing a large smile as her friend puppy tumbled off the bed.
