On Tuesday, August 19, Karachi endured a massive onslaught of monsoon rains, recording up to 145 millimeters of precipitation in a single day. The downpour overwhelmed drainage networks.

In this clip filmed on Azizabad Main Road, a motorcyclist navigating chest-high floodwater is swallowed by the ground when a hidden manhole cover gives way. Miraculously uninjured, the rider emerges from the cavernous hole, hoists the submerged bike onto solid ground, and trudges away.
