Jealous ex-girlfriend, 19, hurls acid over former partner at shopping centre in Bangkok
A jealous ex-girlfriend reportedly hurled acid at her former boyfriend over a money dispute in Thailand.
Nicha, 19, filled her tumbler with a corrosive mixture of bathroom cleaners and splashed the liquid onto her ex lover Silaphat Ployluan, 22, while he was sorting merchandise at work on Sunday morning.
Silaphat screamed and ran to the bathroom of the Makro wholesale retail store in Samut Prakan at the edge of Bangkok, as the acid burned his skin, leaving his arms, legs, and body covered in painful burns and blisters.
Staff helped him wash off the chemicals before he was rushed to the Chularat 1 Suvarnabhumi Hospital.
Cops collected evidence at the scene. They launched an investigation to track down Nicha, who turned herself in to the Bang Kaeo Police Station later that afternoon.
The teenage suspect said she and Silaphat had been living together for three months, with the neglectful boyfriend allegedly leeching off of her.
She claimed: 'He never helped me with any of our expenses, and he even borrowed 30,000 baht to pay for his motorcycle installments. I asked him to leave so I can cut down on expenses, but we never broke up.'
However, Nicha reportedly caught Silaphat cheating with another woman, prompting her to demand the money he owed. When he refused to pay, she allegedly vandalised his motorcycle on June 9.
Nicha said they continued to exchange abusive private messages until her resentment boiled over on August 9, when Silaphat stormed her workplace to insult her in front of her colleagues.
She continued: 'I went to his job to seek revenge. I found him in the Makro store, and went to the restroom to pour toilet cleaner into my tumbler. Before splashing him with chemicals, I yelled 'peek-a-boo!' while he was playing on his phone.'
Police Lieutenant Colonel Sathamon Prasertsuwan, Bang Kaeo police investigator, said: 'After the interrogation, we charged the suspect with assault before proceeding with further legal action.'
Under Section 295 of the Thai Criminal Code, the offence is punishable with up to two years in jail, a fine of up to 40,000 baht (920 GBP), or both.
