US: Firefighters Severely Injured After Gas Explosion At Wilmington Veterinary Center

Wilmington, United States - August 20, 2025 Three firefighters were injured following a gas explosion at the Eastern Carolina Veterinary Medical Center off New Centre Drive. The incident began just after 11 a.m. when a car collided with the building, rupturing a gas line and triggering a leak. Wilmington firefighters responded, conducting a primary search to confirm the building was empty. During the operation, an explosion occurred, injuring three firefighters. Two sustained non-life-threatening injuries, while one suffered severe burns to the hands and arms. All three were transported to the hospital for treatment. Authorities confirmed no civilians were inside the building at the time. Fire crews secured the gas and brought the blaze under control. The Wilmington Police Department located the driver responsible for the crash, who had fled the scene. That individual is now in custody. The fire remains under investigation. Officials expressed gratitude to all responding partners who assisted during the emergency.
