VARIOUS DRONE SHOTS OF CYCLING RALLYJAKARTA, INDONESIA - AUG. 24, 2025: Hundreds of cyclists and environmental activists from the Satya Bumi organization held a cycling rally across Jakarta on Sunday, Aug. 24, to commemorate World Orangutan Day. Participants rode through the Indonesian capital carrying banners and calling for the protection of orangutans and their natural habitats. A giant banner was also unfurled, urging both the government and the public to safeguard the country’s tropical forests, the primary home of orangutans. Andi Muttaqien, Executive Director Satya Bumi, said the event aimed to raise awareness among people who may not yet realize the plight of orangutans in Indonesia, expressing hope that such activities would inform and encourage the public to take action, no matter how small, to help protect orangutans. Organizers warned that these forests are shrinking every year due to land clearing for development and industrial expansion, posing a serious threat to one of the world’s most endangered and iconic species. World Orangutan Day, observed annually on Aug. 19, highlights the urgent need for stronger conservation efforts in Indonesia, which hosts the largest remaining populations of Bornean and Sumatran orangutans. The rally ended with a collective call to stop deforestation and raise public awareness about the importance of sustainable land use.
