ATHENS, GREECE - AUGUST 24: A demonstration was held in Athens on Sunday, August 24, to protest Israel’s attacks on Gaza and to show solidarity with the Palestinian people.
The rally was organized by the All-Workers Militant Front (PAME), affiliated with the Communist Party of Greece (KKE). Workers, civil servants, retirees and students gathered in front of the parliament building at Syntagma Square.
Union representatives and speakers called for an immediate end to Israel’s attacks on Gaza.
As part of the protest, symbolic models wrapped in white shrouds were placed in front of parliament to represent children and babies killed in Gaza. A mock coffin was also carried among the crowd to highlight the civilian death toll.
Protesters chanted slogans demanding freedom for Palestine.
According to organizers, demonstrations in support of Palestine were held in more than 40 cities across Greece, including Athens and Thessaloniki.
According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, this mechanism has led to the killing of over 2,000 Palestinians and the wounding of over 15,000 others while waiting for aid.
On Friday, the IPC confirmed that famine has taken hold in northern Gaza and is expected to spread further south by the end of September.
Israel has killed over 62,600 Palestinians in Gaza since October 2023, devastating the enclave, and rendering it uninhabitable.
