VARIOUS OF PRO-PALESTINIAN RALLY IN ATHENS/ PROTESTERS GATHERING AT ELEFTHERIA SQUARE HOLDING PALESTINIAN FLAGSATHENS, GREECE - OCT. 7: Clashes broke out between police and protesters during a pro-Palestinian demonstration in the Greek capital Athens on Tuesday, Oct. 7. Protesters gathered at Eleftheria Square, waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans such as “Freedom for Palestine,” calling for an immediate end to Israel’s attacks on Gaza. The crowd first marched past the US Embassy before heading toward the Israeli Embassy. As they approached the area, some protesters fired fireworks toward the embassy and threw Molotov cocktails at police officers. Police responded with tear gas to disperse the crowd, and several protesters were detained. Israel has maintained the blockade of Gaza, home to nearly 2.4 million people, for almost 18 years. Since October 2023, Israeli military operations have killed more than 67,000 Palestinians in Gaza, most of them women and children. The relentless bombardment has rendered the enclave all but uninhabitable, with widespread starvation and the spread of disease.
