Cloudburst in Dalhousie: Biker Has Miraculous Escape, HRTC Bus Narrowly Avoids Landslide in Chamba
Himachal Pradesh | August 24:
Heavy overnight rainfall has wreaked havoc in Chamba district of Himachal Pradesh, with multiple reports of cloudbursts and landslides across the region.
A cloudburst near Dalhousie, approximately six kilometers from the tourist town, triggered a powerful water surge in local streams, causing damage and fear in nearby settlements. The incident occurred on the link road near Talai, where muddy water and debris entered homes in the Mahal area, severely impacting local life. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.
In a dramatic turn of events, a biker had a narrow escape from death as a large surge of debris passed by just inches away.
In another close call, an HRTC Volvo bus traveling from Delhi to Chamba narrowly escaped a landslide near Bathri's Patna Morh. Just seconds after the bus passed a stretch of road, massive pine trees and debris came crashing down from the hillside. The bus, operated by the Chamba depot, was reportedly filled with passengers. Timely movement and alert driving prevented a major tragedy.
Meanwhile, the Manimahesh Yatra has been disrupted due to another cloudburst at Sundarashi, where high water flow in the stream made the path unsafe for pilgrims.
Authorities are working to clear fallen trees and debris, while locals in Gholti Sarol and surrounding areas continue to deal with water entering their homes after heavy rains and overflowing drains.
