This is the touching moment passersby helped a woman retrieve a wedding ring that fell into a drain.

Footage captured by Sheila Marie Orlino Moredo shows a group of men lifting the concrete slab covering the waterway to retrieve the red ring box that was dropped by the ring bearer in Tarlac, the Philippines.

One of the locals then jumped into the canal and grabbed the jewellery case, sparking cheers from the men and the wedding entourage on August 18.

Sheila recalled that the ring bearer had stepped out of the car when he accidentally lost grip of the box, which plunged into the drainage system.

She said: 'We searched everywhere and initially thought it was just under the car, but the child said that it went inside the drain, so we called the local officials and youngsters nearby to help retrieve it.

'Thankfully, the mayor, who was to officiate the wedding, had not arrived yet, because it took them an hour as they struggled to remove the lid.'
