Storyline: China transforms ecological landscapes into economic hubs [Voice_over] Rural regions in China are transforming their landscapes to include outdoor and agricultural travel options as the country builds its eco-tourism sector. Places like the Helan Mountain East Foothills in northwest China's Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, which was once considered a barren wasteland, has been revitalized into China's largest contiguous wine grape-growing region. The region attracts visitors who come for some of the 140 million bottles of wine produced here annually. [Sound_bite] Su Jinping, farmer: "It's like a park nowadays. Everywhere you look, there's greenery. We make a lot more money than we used to." [Voice_over] In central China's Henan Province, meanwhile, authorities have worked to increase the amount of forestland. This improvement has attracted more birds, and consequently birdwatchers, giving way to a unique "birdwatching economy" that includes small hotels, restaurants, and birdwatching facilities. Estimates show the birdwatching industry has boosted the annual per capita income of local villagers by about 2,800 U.S. dollars. [Restrictions : No access Chinese mainland]
