The Forest Department in India’s Tamil Nadu state released a video showing a herd of elephants safely crossing a railway line in Madukkarai, Coimbatore.

The system uses 24 cameras with thermal and visible light imaging installed on 12 towers to monitor elephant movement. According to the department, it has enabled more than 6,500 safe crossings so far.

Since November 2023, no elephants have been killed by trains, the department added.
