IDF Chief of Staff Tours Gaza, Announces Expansion of Operations Against Hamas
Gaza - September 03, 2025 IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Herzi Halevi conducted a field tour in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, accompanied by Southern Command Chief Maj. Gen. Yaron Finkelman, Division 162 Commander Brig. Gen. Sagiv Dahan, and commanders from the Givati Brigade, 401st Brigade, and 215th Brigade. During the visit, Halevi observed Gaza City from a forward position and was briefed on Division 162’s operational status and upcoming plans to deepen maneuver operations. Addressing the troops, he praised their courage and resilience, emphasizing that the IDF is intensifying its campaign against Hamas as part of the second phase of Operation “Merkavot Gideon.” Halevi stated that the current effort aims to free the hostages, describing it as both a moral and national mission, while continuing to strike Hamas command centers and infrastructure until its defeat. He highlighted the critical role of reservists, noting that a large-scale mobilization has already begun to reinforce the ongoing operations.
