VARIOUS OF ISRAELI PROTESTORS MARCHING TO PRESIDENT ISAAC HERZOG’S RESIDENCE IN WEST JERUSALEM WITH LARGE BANNERS AND PHOTOGRAPHS TO DEMAND RELEASE OF ALL ISRAELI CAPTIVESJERUSALEM - SEP. 4: On Thursday, September 4, Israelis gathered outside President Isaac Herzog’s residence in West Jerusalem to demand the release of captives held in Gaza. Demonstrators carried banners and photographs of the captives while calling on the government to end the war and reach a deal. Israeli forces intervened to disperse the protest. According to Israeli estimates, of the over 200 taken captive in the October 2023 attacks, Hamas still holds about 50, including 20 believed to be alive. In parallel, over 10,800 Palestinians are imprisoned in Israel. Since October 2023, Israeli raids and settler attacks in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem have surged alongside the military campaign in Gaza. More than 18,500 Palestinians have been arrested, and at least 10,000 have been killed in these areas during the same period. The Israeli army has launched a brutal military offensive on the Gaza Strip, killing over 64,200 Palestinians in Gaza. The military campaign has devastated the enclave, which is facing famine. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice for its war on the enclave.
