Durango, United States - September 10, 2025 A Cooper’s hawk was released back into the wild north of Durango after recovering from a wing injury sustained when it flew into a window. The hawk was initially treated at Durango Animal Hospital under Dr. Haag’s care, then transferred to the Frisco Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Del Norte for further recovery and flight conditioning. Facility Manager Michael Sirochman oversaw its rehabilitation. The release, captured in slow motion, shows the hawk exiting its crate and spreading its wings gracefully before soaring into its natural habitat, highlighting the success of months of careful care. District Wildlife Manager Brandon Dye returned the bird to the area where it was originally found, completing a full circle from injury to freedom. CPW SW Region shared the footage, noting the hawk’s journey as a reminder of the challenges and triumphs of urban wildlife rehabilitation.
