Montgomery Village, United States - August 29, 2025 Officers from the Montgomery County Department of Police – 3rd District Station arrested 67-year-old Alejandro Ceferino Zunca for impersonating a police officer and operating a vehicle equipped to resemble a police cruiser. On Friday, August 29, 2025, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a 3rd District officer observed a Ford Transit van on New Hampshire Avenue near East Shaw Avenue. The vehicle had activated red and blue rear-facing lights and displayed markings reading “Police” and “Policia” on its rear doors. The officer determined that the van did not belong to the Montgomery County Department of Police and did not match the typical configuration used by local law enforcement. A traffic stop was conducted, and Zunca initially claimed to be a current police officer. He later said he had previously served in law enforcement but provided no documentation verifying his status. Zunca was arrested for impersonating a police officer. A search revealed a fictitious badge, a holster with a replica black pistol, and additional items resembling police equipment. Authorities also recovered from the Ford a yellow reflective police ribbon, a uniform shirt labeled “HAPCOA POLICE,” a taser, an ASP baton, a tri-fold wallet containing a Baltimore City Police badge, handcuffs, a “POLICIA NATIONAL” baseball cap, an anti-ballistic vest, a roll of yellow caution tape, and other items resembling police gear. The vehicle was seized pending further investigation. Zunca was transported to the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit and charged with impersonating a police officer, and cited for unlawful use of red and blue flashing lights. He was released on a $2,000 unsecured personal bond.
