According to data from Shenzhen Customs, in the first seven months of the year, the city exported about 95 million U.S. dollars-worth of bicycles, representing a year-on-year increase of over 50 percent. Leading the charge are firms like XDS Shenzhen Xidesheng Bicycles which has an entire industrial chain dedicated to their products. Company executives say the secret of their success is investing in R&D and listening to clients. [Sound_bite] Liang Wei, staff member engaged in R&D and sales, XDS Shenzhen Xidesheng Bicycles: "Based on consumer demand as conveyed from the sales end, we will continuously invest in research and development. Currently, our carbon-fiber frame technology, including our intelligent riding system, has reached a world-class level." [Voice_over] Meanwhile, representatives from the Chinese Cycling Association say bike industries are boosting local economies across the country and earning a reputation for quality on the global stage. [Sound_bite] Xiong Xin, secretary, Chinese Cycling Association: "Investments in technological research and development, equipment manufacturing, sales and maintenance within the bicycle industry are increasing across China. The bicycle industry has become a vital engine driving local economies. We have also noticed a growing presence of ‘Made in China’ in high-level international competitions and even on the streets and alleys abroad." [Voice_over] Data from the CCA shows that last year, sales of sports bicycles increased by 18 percent year on year, and sales of smart power-assisted bicycles increased by 25 percent year on year.
