This is the dramatic moment a tourist plunged a rented car off a ramp as floods swamped a port in Thailand.

The holidaymaker allegedly ignored traffic cones and tried to drive through the flooded pavement at the Phuket Boat Lagoon pier on September 7.

Footage shows the vehicle nosediving into the water after the tourist failed to see the drop on the road. He and his passenger were seen clambering out of the car unharmed as it fuly sank into the deluge.

Authorities later fished out the car from the flood. It reportedly did not suffer serious damage.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
