Wild elephant falls into water tank, officials smashes structure to save stranded animal
A massive elephant tumbled into a water tank, prompting swift action from forest officials. To free the trapped animal, they broke apart sections of the tank. The dramatic rescue operation highlighted both the elephant’s struggle and the officials’ determination.
The incident took place in the Kozhikkara area near Coonoor in Nilgiri district, in southern India's Tamil Nadu, on September 12.
Visuals show that an elephant, after falling into a water tank, was seen struggling helplessly. Forest department officials arrived and were seen breaking the tank to rescue the elephant.
Speaking to Newslions, Ravindranath, Range Forest Officer, RFO Coonoor, Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, stated that in Kozhikkara tribal village, falling under the jurisdiction of Coonoor Taluk, Coonoor Forest Division, and Benhope Police, it was reported at approximately 3:20 am that a female elephant had accidentally fallen into a water tank.
Acting swiftly upon receiving the information, forest officials immediately reached the location to assess the situation. Recognizing the danger faced by the trapped animal, they carefully used specialized tools to break open the water tank, working meticulously to ensure the elephant’s safety. After several hours of meticulous effort, the elephant was successfully rescued at 7.40 am.
Once freed, the animal was guided back and released safely into the forest, ensuring its well-being. The swift and coordinated actions of the forest officials prevented any harm and highlighted the importance of timely intervention in such emergencies.
