On Friday, September 12, in Franklin Park, west of Chicago, an ICE officer was severely injured and a suspect, identified as Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez — an undocumented immigrant with a prior reckless driving charge — was killed after allegedly resisting arrest and dragging the officer with his car during a vehicle stop. The officer fired shots, and Villegas-Gonzalez later died at a hospital.

The incident prompted a large law enforcement response and road closures, while immigrant rights groups and Illinois Governor JB Pritzker called for transparency and accountability, voicing concern and criticism over ICE operations in the area.
