MAN HOLDING DEAD BABYGAZA STRIP, PALESTINE - SEPT. 15, 2025: Seven children have died in just one week at Nasser Medical Complex in the southern Gaza Strip, medical staff at the hospital said. Medical sources attributed the deaths to severe malnutrition among pregnant women, extreme stress and fear, forced displacement, exhaustion from ongoing bombardments, power outages, and critical shortages of medicine. Among the victims were four unborn babies who died in their mothers’ wombs due to miscarriages, as well as three premature infants who died in incubators. In a separate case, a newborn died after the delivery was delayed because the attending doctor had been killed. Hospital officials emphasized that miscarriages and premature infant deaths are occurring daily, warning that Gaza’s healthcare system is on the brink of collapse due to a lack of essential medicines and functioning medical facilities. Since March 2, Israeli authorities have completely closed all Gaza border crossings, pushing the territory’s 2.4 million population into famine. The famine-linked death toll since October 2023 rose to 422, including 145 children, the Health Ministry said on Sunday. The Israeli army has continued a deadly offensive on Gaza, killing more than 64,700 Palestinians since the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas attacks. The military campaign has devastated the enclave. Last November, the International Criminal Court issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza. Israel also faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice over its war on the enclave.
