The protest comes ahead of the start of Trump’s state visit to the U.K. on Wednesday. The banner was organised by the collective Everyone Hates Elon, an activist group born out of protests against billionaire Elon Musk’s role in the Trump administration. It has been described by the group as the largest photograph of the pair in the world, and was funded through public donations. More than £30,000 was raised via a crowdfunder titled “Ruin Trump’s UK visit with this Epstein photo.” A spokesperson for Everyone Hates Elon said: “Trump’s supporters are tearing themselves apart over the Epstein files. Now he’s hoping to escape it all to have tea with the King.” “But there’s no way we’re letting him use our country to polish his image. Most people here hate what he stands for, and we’ve no time for abusers. We’re ready to make sure Epstein haunts him everywhere he goes.” Trump’s links to Epstein have become a point of contention in the U.S. and beyond, with an alleged intimate 50th birthday message from the billionaire politician to the rogue financier emerging in recent weeks. At the time of his death in 2019, Epstein was facing federal charges for the sex trafficking of minors in Florida and New York. He pleaded guilty and was convicted by a Florida state court of procuring a child for prostitution and of soliciting a prostitute in 2008. The lenient and unusual nature of the plea deal and Epstein’s links to powerful figures - including Trump, former President Bill Clinton and Britain’s Prince Andrew, have long provoked questions about the extent of the crimes and whether a wider scandal was covered up. Trump, Clinton and Prince Andrew have all denied any allegations of involvement or knowledge in Epstein's illegal activities. The intervention comes just days after Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer dismissed Lord Mandelson from his role as UK Ambassador to the United States, citing concerns over his links to Epstein. The group has carried out a series of actions in recent days. These include the unveiling an unauthorised memorial to Epstein at Mr Trump’s Aberdeen golf course and distributing spoof memorabilia in the Windsor Castle gift shop, featuring images of Mr Trump with Epstein and the words “never forget.” The protest group, initially formed to target Elon Musk following Mr Trump’s election, has since gained attention for stunts aimed at billionaires. In June, a giant banner criticising Jeff Bezos drew international headlines. President Trump arrives in London on 17 September. It is the first time in history a foreign leader has been granted two UK state visits. The trip has already been overshadowed by controversy, with Lord Mandelson’s resignation following scrutiny of his friendship with Epstein. In 2019, Prince Andrew stepped down from royal duties after questions over his own relationship with Epstein, and allegations - which he denies - that he sexually abused one of Epstein’s accusers.
