A large crowd turned out at short notice to witness a spectacular Battle of Britain 85th anniversary flypast in Kent, UK this morning (September 19).

The original flypast scheduled to coincide with 85th anniversary on Monday (September 15) had to be postponed due to strong winds.

Fortunately, good weather prevailed by the end of the week allowing for the display to be staged at the last minute.

Several warbirds flew over the Battle of Britain memorial in Capel-le-Ferne at 11am precisely.

The display featured two Spitfires and a Hurricane of the Memorial Flight joined by a twin-seater from Goodwood and a Hispano Buchon, a Spanish Air Force version of the Messerschmitt Bf109 powered by a Rolls Royce Merlin engine, and even had astronaut Tim Peake on board one of the planes.
