2. (SOUNDBITE) (Turkish) ULAK CEO, RUSEN KOMURCU SAYING:
"Ulak, As one of the stakeholders at TEKNOFEST, Ulak has been organizing the Wireless Communication Competition for the past two years. This year, with the participation of more than 200 teams from 66 universities across Türkiye, the competition brought together young engineers specializing in electronic communications — whom we call wireless communication engineers.
The final stage of the competition has been held on-site at TEKNOFEST for the past two days, with 14 finalist teams competing. These teams attempt to transmit data from one point to another using software-defined radios under the effect of a jammer. The competition aims to promote projects focusing on core areas such as 5G and 6G, which are Ulak’s main fields of expertise.
Our primary goal aligns with Ulak’s founding mission — ensuring Türkiye’s national communication independence and developing domestic technology products. We aim to prepare the next generation of skilled engineers, contributing to the creation of national communication solutions and supporting the state’s strategic goals in this field. Experienced mentors and engineers at Ulak guide young participants, helping them bring their projects to life, perfectly reflecting the spirit of TEKNOFEST. In this sense, Ulak represents the communication dimension of TEKNOFEST.
TEKNOFEST is an invaluable event that has made significant contributions for many years. It allows young people to witness and experience Türkiye’s technological advancements, boosting their confidence while offering the public a unique opportunity to engage with innovative technologies.
In the field of wireless communication, we believe these technologies will play a defining role in the future. Therefore, Türkiye must continue developing and deploying its own domestic products. Supported by its main shareholders ASELSAN, HAVELSAN, and the Defense Industry Technology Fund, Ulak works closely with local operators to expand the reach of domestic wireless communication technologies.
By connecting young engineers with these technologies and sharing Ulak’s advancements, we strive to foster their growth and contributions. TEKNOFEST plays a vital role in this effort by bringing vitality and motivation, ultimately supporting the development of a strong and innovative generation for Türkiye’s future.”."
ISTANBUL, TÜRKİYE - SEPT. 18: Türkiye’s drive for technological independence hinges on developing its own wireless communications systems, the head of Turkish telecommunications company Ulak said at the country’s flagship technology festival.
Speaking to Anadolu at TEKNOFEST in Istanbul, Ulak CEO Rusen Komurcu said the firm is hosting a competition where 200 teams from 66 universities transmit data using “software-based radios they developed” while facing jamming challenges.
The contest allows young innovators to test experimental projects in next-generation networks. Komurcu said that the competitors are working on 5G and 6G technologies, which are telecommunications firm’s areas of expertise.
He emphasized that supporting youth aligns with Ulak’s mission. “We aim to carry out Ulak’s fundamental founding mission, which is to own Türkiye’s national communications and develop domestic tech products with young people in Türkiye,” he said. “We strive to contribute to our country’s goals via our projects.”
Komurcu said Ulak’s engineers mentor participants to help bring their ideas to life, describing the effort as “very much in line with the spirit of TEKNOFEST.”
- National vision
The five-day TEKNOFEST opened on Wednesday under the organization of the Turkish Technology Team (T3) Foundation and Türkiye’s Industry and Technology Ministry, with Anadolu as the global communications partner.
Komurcu said the event provides young people with the chance to see and experience technological innovations developed in Türkiye, adding that wireless communications will be “decisive” for the country’s future technological independence.
“Türkiye needs to develop its own domestic wireless communications technologies — this is Ulak’s fundamental mission,” he stressed.
"Together with (defense firms) Aselsan, Havelsan, and with the Turkish defense industry technology fund, we work towards ensuring homegrown technologies dominate the wireless communications sector in Türkiye," he noted.
Komurcu said TEKNOFEST also plays a motivational role. It is a key event to promote homegrown technologies and to inspire young people in Türkiye to feel encouraged and take part in building the future.
