STORYLINE:

STANDUP (English): HONG LIANG, Xinhua correspondent
"2024 marks the 30th anniversary that China officially gained access to the Internet. Over the past 30 years, online media has experienced significant development.
What has technological innovation contributed to this development? And what will online media look like in the future with the continuous development of technologies such as AI? As the 2024 China Internet Media Forum got underway in China's Kunming, experts attending the event have shared their thoughts."

SOUNDBITE (Chinese): WANG WEI, Vice president of iFLYTEK
"The development of AI should be seen as a combination of challenges and opportunities. It could be a new tool for productivity. For those of us in this profession, if we can master this tool, it's like having a new pair of wings, allowing your work efficiency to be improved."

SOUNDBITE (Chinese): YANG YI, Vice president of Communication University of China
"The emergence of AIGC has indeed provided us with boundless imagination for intelligent content production. Many tasks that previously required repetitive labor and a significant amount of work have been largely transformed with the technology of AIGC. This means that the content production process has now transitioned into a new paradigm."

SOUNDBITE (Chinese): JARUWAN UDOMSAB, Thai researcher of Kunming Hitech Software & Information Security Testing Laboratory
"We can use AI in script writing and even use it to automatically generate short videos. I also hope that Chinese companies will continue to develop products for us in Southeast Asia. It would be helpful if our language could also be automatically translated into other languages, making communication even more convenient for us."

Attendees also shared their views on how to navigate the challenges brought by AI.

SOUNDBITE (Chinese): WANG WEI, Vice president of iFLYTEK
"We need to enhance the ability of using AI so as to make the most of it.
A best attribute of humans is creativity. Let machines handle repetitive tasks. In the future, competition in this industry will revolve around those professionals who have mastered AI technologies and those who haven't. This competition will remain within the industry."

SOUNDBITE (Chinese): YANG YI, Vice president of Communication University of China
"We need to modify industry values through regulations and shared recognition of social values. This involves navigating the boundaries between digits, privacy, ethics and other challenges brought by technology ethics, which will ultimately reshape the AI industry values based on human values.
The global community will collectively face governance issues concerning AI. Constructing a global governance system for AI is a matter of shared concern for many countries. Strengthening international cooperation in this regard is particularly crucial."
