Torrential rain triggered by strong convective storm clouds battered parts of Wenzhou City in east China's Zhejiang Province on Saturday night, bringing severe flooding, road blockages, and landslides across multiple districts. Authorities in Rui'an, Longgang, Pingyang, and Cangnan issued red alerts for heavy rainfall on Saturday night. Pingyang County recorded more than 300 millimeters of rain that reached the level of an "extreme rainstorm". Downpours hit much of Wenzhou, with underground garages in Longgang and Pingyang inundated, leaving numerous vehicles underwater. In Pingyang's Shanmen Township, a major road was struck by landslides as rainwater caused mountainsides on both sides to collapse, sending soil, rocks, and uprooted trees crashing down and completely cutting off traffic. Firefighters rushed to the scene, clearing debris by hand and racing against time to reopen the road. Weather authorities have warned that heavy to torrential rainfall will continue across Wenzhou in the coming days and asked residents to minimize unnecessary travel.
