This is the nerve-wracking moment a group of seafarers were seen enjoying themselves on deck as waves crashed over their ship.

Andi Fahmi and his colleagues played on the dry bulk carrier as powerful surges flooded the vessel in the middle of the sea off East Java, Indonesia.

Footage shows four sailors running across the deck before a huge swell swept them towards the edge of the ship, which rocked violently in the rough sea on September 3.

Andi said: 'We played so that we wouldn't get bored. Even though it was scary, we still enjoyed the waves, that is the life of a seafarer. Everyone was safe because there is an iron guard, but it is no more than a metre high.'

The men were running across the tops of sealed compartments that are used to transport tonnes of dry cargo such as coal, iron ore, grain, salt, sugar and rice.
